Tooth decay is one of the most common chronic diseases globally, yet it is almost entirely preventable with consistent oral hygiene habits.
Your daily defense blueprint
- Brush twice a day: Use a fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush. Spend a full two minutes covering all tooth surfaces. Clean your tongue, too!
- Don't skip flossing: Your toothbrush misses nearly 40% of your tooth surfaces (the tight spaces between teeth). Flossing daily removes trapped food and bacteria.
- Watch your sugar intake: Bacteria feed on leftover sugars, producing enamel-destroying acids. Limit sticky sweets, sodas, and constant snacking.
- Drink plenty of water: Water rinses away food debris and stimulates saliva production, your mouth's natural defense against acid.
